We had a very interesting 3 days break in Ypres, had been hoping to tour the area for many years finally made up our minds to do it. We must say how much we admired the way all the cemeteries were tended, it was really touching brought tears to our eyes to realise that our troops are still remembered. We had a lovely day in Brugge, had a pleasant trip on the boat, an added bonus was the yearly street markets were held the weekend we visited. We thought that Ypres was excellent, with beautiful buildings, wonderful friendly people. An ideal place to tour from, we would definitely like to return sometime in the future. My wife and I decided we want to learn more about the people and times of WWI. We also wanted to pay our respects to the fallen and to hear the Last Post being played at the Menem Gate. The holiday was an emotional experience for both us as we came to learn more and more of the period between 1914 -1918 during our 4 day visit. Fortunately neither of our families had suffered any loss during WWI and we had no desire to visit any of cemetary or walk the trenches as many who visit the area do. We went with open minds and apprecited the work done by so many people to make our visit so interesting. If we learnt anything it was the futility of war and the price paid by so many.
