yet despite this and Aung San Suu Kyi s plea to Lonely Planet they still sell the guide and encourage travel here. Traveling to Burma/Myanmar only legitimates and funds the militia governement. It is not possible to travel ethically in this country under this regime. Have a consciense and don t go. I think travelskerricks blog is probably correct. cottage holiday in wales

For those following the situation in Burma who would like to support the protesters in some way, you can do so by signing a petition to be presented to the UN this week: Burma is ruled by one of the most brutal military dictatorships in the world. For decades the Burmese regime has fought off pressure--imprisoning elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and democracy activists, wiping out thousands of villages, imposing forced labour, creating refugees- caravan holiday in wales

But last Tuesday Buddhist monks and nuns, revered in Burma, began marching and chanting prayers. The protests spread as hundreds of thousands of ordinary people and public figures joined in, finding the hope they% lost. Now they% e facing crackdown % so please, show your solidarity to this movement towards reconciliation and democracy and sign the emergency petition supporting the Burmese people -- it ll be delivered to United Nations Security Council members and international media all week: camping holiday wales

The world must stand with the Burmese people at this time, to show the military rulers that the world will not tolerate repression and violence. Right now, global leaders are gathering in New York for the annual United Nations summit. In speeches, press interviews but also in real actions, we need them to show Burma s military junta that the global community is willing to act in solidarity with the protesters. accommodation holiday wales

Lonely Planet Travel Editor Tom Hall said: % e wanted to create a series that offered something which other guides on the market didn% ; information on the best things to see and do that you can only get from people who have lived in that place. Usually, unless you know someone who lives in the city, or you get the chance to ask a local for their recommendations, you would be unlikely to find some of the fantastic local haunts which are off the tourist trail. The thinking behind the Encounter series is that our books will allow you to do just that, without spending lots of your short break trying to find a cool club or cosy caf.% /p cottage holiday wales

The books are interspersed with interviews from some of the cities% most colourful characters. For example the Prague Encounter guide includes interviews with a photographer and keen clubber who gives her tips on the best night spots, an artist who shares her knowledge about the cool districts and a pub owner and award winning brewer who gives his advice on the best places to have a beer. holiday in wales

The Encounter range was designed in collaboration with travellers. Other key features of the series are: % A user-friendly layout which allows you to travel in the way that you want to, whether it% by neighbouthood, the scene that you% e interested in, or the specific experiences you want to have. % A tone which is engaging, chatty, off-beat; and focuses on the % eal% city. holiday wales

% Full colour throughout with a pull-out map. % Diary of events in the city. % Snapshots which look at music, the gay and lesbian scene, food, shopping and other city specific highlights. NOTE TO EDITORS Review copies are available. Authors are available for interviews and to write tailored features. Extracts can be organised, as well as cover and selected images from the guides. cottage holiday in wales

Lonely Planet | Press Room | Signs that Guide, Confuse and Amuse Signs that Guide, Confuse and Amuse

SEPTEMBER 10, 2007 Lonely Planet brings to life the fun side of travel in this laugh-out-loud second edition of the best-selling Signspotting, which hits the shelves this September. Packed with over 160 images from around the globe, this is an entertaining collection of some of the world% funniest signs and alarming translations of the English language. Author Doug Lansky notes that even he struggles to get by living in Sweden without his mother tongue... I m no stranger to linguistic gaffes myself, even my six-year old daughter happily points outmy crimes of syntax and the mixing of metaphors, typically in front of visiting guests. caravan holiday in wales

Wikipedia now list 133 regional varieties of the English language and there are some newfangled English-language hybris out there such as Franglais (French and English), Chinglish (Chinese and English) or the amusingly dubbed Dunglish (Dutch and English) to name but a few. camping holiday wales

I sincerely appreciate your comment about traveling with a smaller impact or footprint. It's been on my mind a great deal lately as I plan future trips, from the impact on climate change of my plane trip, to the influence tourism has on the communities I visit. It's be great for Lonely Planet to do more education to travelers about how we can reduce our impacts, though your own site and through other media outlets. Thanks!
