The northern regions of the state contain the southern ranges of the famous Appalachian Mountains. Near Huntsville there is plenty of good mountain biking and hiking on trails like Monte Sano State Park, Mountain Mist Trail, and McKay Hollow Trail. In the central region of Alabama there are a plethora of great activities surrounding the city of Anniston, wonderful trails like Chinnabee Silent Trail, Odum Scout Trail, and the Pinhoti Trail. Further south, easily accessible from Mobile, is the Gulf Shores region of Alabama. Most people don't even know that Alabama has a beach, but Gulf Shores will surprise you. There is mile after mile of pure white sand and gentle waves. You can go jet skiing, parasailing, bathing, hiking, and swimming; it' class beach experience.
