Posted by: Truman13 - 02 Dec 2007, 14:53 I can t believe you have Mumbai in this list- it is a tip! There are shacks virtually on the airport site, even the cleaners in the airport beg for money, children are maimed to get better begging takings, and all of the swanky blocks from the airport into town are covered in black mould. Maintenance as a concept does not appear to exist in any Indian language. Bologna the best Italian city I returned there 20 years after my first visit could not believe the amount of graffitti. Overview Loved to deathBy Tony and Maureen Wheeler caravan holiday in wales
Loved to death. These days it s a phrase that more and more travel possibilities get tarnished with. We scratch our heads and wonder just when Bali s Kuta or India s Goa morphed from quiet surfer escapes or laid back hippy hangouts into international resorts of wall to wall shops, restaurants and package hotels. Cities the world over worry about how they re going to cope with ever increasing flows of tourists. camping holiday wales
Late afternoon at Kuta BeachAt Lonely Planet sustainable and responsible have always been parts of our vocabulary. In our early days, those key words had yet to be irrevocably linked with tourism. But looking back at our earlier books it s pretty clear that we realised from the start that making a connection to the places we visited was a vital part of the sage message we wanted our guidebooks to carry, right down to how they are produced. accommodation holiday wales
Today, more than ever, we re utterly convinced of the incredible importance of travel. It s only through travelling, through meeting people that we begin to understand that we re all sharing this world. We are all coming along for the ride, despite the barriers which governments, religions and economic and political beliefs often seem to build up between us. holiday last minute wales
With information on this website and in our books, we hope to inspire you to try a new, far more rewarding, way of travelling. So how do we make that ride not just a quick fairground twirl, but something that we can enjoy for our travelling lives and pass on to our children and future generations By changing our travel habits and thinking differently about how, where and why we travel. Responsible travel means assessing our impact on the environment and local cultures and economies - and acting to make that impact as positive as possible. We re including more information in our guidebooks and on this website on how you can personally travel more responsibly. catering holiday self wales
Responsible tourism has incredible potential to have a positive impact on some of our most pressing global issues: peace and poverty, not to mention the influence it can have on biodiversity conservation. As a company, we have committed to ensuring all our staff travel is carbon neutral by paying to offset the carbon emissions of our airline flights through the pro-environment projects of climate-care. holiday wales walking

To Madagascar with love from LondonPosted Tuesday, October 16, 2007, 5:01 PM by Lonely Planet London s not all about shopping, exhibitions and partying. I was lucky enough to work voluntarily for Azafady for a few weeks in their Kilburn office. My job was to make their website more user-friendly. Or so I thought... holiday park south wales
On my arrival, Mark the director had me writing emails, answering the phone, posting voluntary positions on university websites, scanning applications, running to the post office, making tea and contributing to the madness that is the office of Azafady. You think London is glam Well Azafady s office is quite the opposite. And for good reason - 90% of the donations they receive go straight to Malagasy communities. cottage holiday wales

Blue sky bio-hazardPosted Wednesday, November 21, 2007, 7:17 PM by Lonely Planet Australia: blue skies, big open brown spaces, lots and lots of minerals and one, particularly nasty one... camping holiday wales
Chrysotilewas once mined to make asbestos - a popular, cheap housing material used in Australia in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Now, it s widely known that asbestos is highly toxic and leads to nasty lung related diseases, including cancer. accommodation holiday wales
The mine site was in Wittenoom; a town by the same name servicing the workers of what was a booming industry. But since discovering the hazardous effects of asbestos, Wittenoom s been deserted. Situated in the Pilbara region in northern Western Australia the area still appeals to many travellers - and quite rightly. The gorges and waterfalls of nearby Karijini National Park are naturally spectacular. holiday last minute wales
Iconic 80s Australian rock band, Midnight Oil released the album Blue Sky Mining in 1987, featuring a track, Blue Sky Mine which cut to the core of the mining industry and made Wittenoom infamous. Its lyrics still resonate with miners and their families who ve lobbied their incredibly wealthy ex-employers for justice and compensation to cover medical costs and damages. catering holiday self wales

As passionate travellers, we want to give something back to the incredible places that have inspired us for so many years. The charities we support are based mainly in the developing world, and focus first and foremost on health and education and secondarily on conservation and environmentalism. We also support projects that foster the positive attributes of tourism and the respectful preservation of tourist areas and the environment. After all, we want these spectacular sites to be around to enjoy for a long time to come. family holiday wales

monebaggasseI sincerely appreciate your comment about traveling with a smaller impact or footprint. It's been on my mind a great deal lately as I plan future trips, from the impact on climate change of my plane trip, to the influence tourism has on the communities I visit. It's be great for Lonely Planet to do more education to travelers about how we can reduce our impacts, though your own site and through other media outlets. Thanks!
