Dow Jones & Company Reports April 2004 Advertising Volume
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 2004--Dow Jones & Company (NYSE: DJ) today reported April advertising volumes for its leading print publications.
Advertising linage, or volume, at The Wall Street Journal's U.S. edition increased 7.5% in April, with year-to-date linage up 6.6% (up 5.4% on a per issue basis). In the general advertising category at the Journal, April linage increased 14.5% on strong gains in travel, auto, insurance, professional services and health care advertising. In the Journal's technology category, linage decreased 30.6% in April with a modest increase in software advertising offset by declines in each other major technology ad category. The Journal's financial advertising increased 29.7% in April on strong gains in wholesale financial and tombstone advertising, which were partially offset by declines in retail financial advertising. Classified/Other linage increased 13.7% on gains in both real estate and other classified advertising.
At Barron's, national advertising pages increased 53.7% in April, with year-to-date pages up 29.6%, driven by strong increases in financial and auto advertising.

The Asian Wall Street Journal's linage increased 12.6%, with year-to-date linage up 8.9% (up 7.5% on a per issue basis). Increases in the general, financial and classified advertising categories were the primary factors for the increase in advertising in April for both the European and Asian Journal.
