Jamaica hits the million mark

Holiday In Wales On December 20, Jamaica welcomed its one-millionth visitor from the United States for this year, when a New York family landed at Montego Bay's Sangster International Airport.

Caravan Holiday In Wales The visitors and local media attended a small reception in the Government VIP Lounge at the airport. The family was presented with an all-expense-paid one-week trip back to Jamaica, courtesy of Air Jamaica. The Minister of Tourism and Director of Tourism presented gifts to Tracy, including artwork by a Jamaican artist Everald Powell and a basket of Jamaican rum, coffee, a book and other products.

Research by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) shows that tourist arrivals in the Caribbean rose 7% in 2004 reaching 21.6 million, despite the weather conditions of last September. This includes a 16% increase of UK visitors to Aruba and a 22% increase to Jamaica. During this period, the region also saw a 13% increase in cruise ship passengers worldwide reaching 20.5 million.
