Holiday Wales Toms early career was with the hotel industry where, prior to joining Reed in 1982, he spent three years as Hall Manager of the Brighton Exhibition Centre.

In his first few years with Reed Exhibitions, he managed a number of events including Fast Food Fair, The Motor Caravan Show, CAD and Cycling. Tom took over the reins of World Travel Market in 1984 during which time the event has grown annually, both in terms of size and structure, to become the major worldwide industry event it is today.

Since 1992, Tom has been responsible for the development of travel events worldwide, which has resulted in the launch of four events, Arabian Travel Market in the Middle East, C.I.S. Travel Market in St Petersburg in 1996, the launch of International Golf Travel Market in 1998 and of Mediterranean Travel Fair (in 2000 in Cairo). Reed Travel Exhibitions also handles the management contract for British Travel Trade Fair (organised on behalf of the English, Northern Ireland, Scottish and Wales Tourist Boards and the British Tourist Authority), and the management contract from the Melbourne Convention & Marketing Bureau to manage AIME (AsiaPacific Incentives & Meetings Expo). Reed acquired Europes most successful incentive and meeting event, EIBTM in early 1997, and additionally acquired Top Resa (Deauville, France) and the management contract to organise, on behalf of ICCA, the ICCA Exhibition which runs alongside the annual ICCA Congress. The recent acquisition of La Cumbre, which sells and markets the United States to Latin America and the Caribbean; the launch of Asia Business Travel Market (ABTM) targeting the rapidly growing business travel market and to be held annually in Greater China from September 2003; and the formation of a partnership with International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM), the first trade event dedicated to the global luxury travel sector (Cannes, France) brings the number of Reed Travel Exhibitions events to 13.<p>

Toms role of developing worldwide travel events was recognised by his promotion to Global Director, Reed Travel Exhibitions in February 1996. Having been promoted to Managing Director in October 1998, his title has changed (February 2003) to Chairman, Reed Travel Exhibitions to reflect the seniority of his role within Reed. A past Chairman (1997-1998) of the Institute of Travel & Tourism, Tom has been a member since 1993 and on the Board from 1995-2001. His commitment to the travel industry is demonstrated by his involvement in travel related associations worldwide.
