JTB appoints Regional Director UK/Europe

Holiday In Wales In a sign that business to Jamaica is growing ever stronger from the UK the Jamaica Tourist Board has announced the appointment of Elizabeth Fox as Regional Director UK/Europe who will be based at its London office. The appointment is effective immediately.

The Director of Tourism, Paul Pennicook commented on the Jamaica Tourist's Board (JTB) sponsorship of the event. "The JTB has always believed that Red Stripe Sumfest is an integral part of Jamaica's cultural calendar. Each year, Sumfest showcases the rich and varied musical talents of the island and the JTB has always supported this stellar event. We are more than pleased to once again be a major sponsor of the event."

Holiday Wales Reporting directly to the Director of Tourism Paul Pennicook, Ms Fox's role will entail directing and overseeing the promotion of Jamaica's tourism industry in the UK and Europe in collaboration with advertising and public relations agencies to ensure optimum visitor arrivals and an increase in annual market share from the region.

St. Director of Tourism Since 1998 Mr. Peter Hilary Modeste has served, as the Director of Tourism of the St. Lucia Tourist Board. President of the St. Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association, Mr. Modeste has been employed within the tourism sector for a number of years. He was educated at the University of Wales and is married with three children. A former Minister of Education, Mr. Modeste has served on a number of national organizations including the St. Lucia Development Bank.

Speaking at the event, Ignacio Perez, Regional Director for Sandals Resorts in the Eastern Caribbean, called for tourism to play a more active role in the schools curriculum. If tourism is going to develop a sustainable base, the story of its vital importance must be told in schools. Tourism is backbone of St Lucias economy. At Sandals, we believe that young people must be given every opportunity to understand the value of tourism to the country and the role they can play in its development.

The Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), has announced that Dr. Jean S. Holder, the former secretary general and an honourary member of the Board of Directors, will represent the regional tourism body on the Board of Directors of the Cricket World Cup 2007.

The Shanghai Water Tourism Association is planning to develop water tourism into a permanent tourist attraction, emulating the successes of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. "We want to promote water tourism in Shanghai, " said Dao Shuming, director of the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administrative Commission, told the Shanghai Daily newspaper. "We want to gain more fame among foreign travelers."
