Peru Panorama - Lares
I really enjoyed the tour as I felt it offered a good cross range
of different parts of Peru and let us really see what Peru was like
through modes of local transportation. My overall impression was
that the tour was well organized and that it was a good mix of
cultural experience with trekking.

Is it possible to skip the Inca Trail even if the tour includes
it
Yes! If you do not wish to hike the Inca Trail please advise us at
the time of booking (it is very difficult to make these
arrangements once you have already confirmed). If you choose not to
hike the trail you will spend two nights in Cuzco and then take the
train to the town of Aguas Calientes for the third night. At
sunrise you will rejoin your group at Machu Picchu. You may also
choose to book a trip that includes the slightly higher and scenic
Lares' Trail. This popular 3-day and 2 night trek, ends in Aguas
Calientes, where you will spend the night and catch the early buss
to Machu Picchu.

Do porters carry our luggage while on the Inca Trail
Yes! In Cuzco you will be provided with a large stuff sac in which
you can place up to 7kg of personal items. Our porters will carry
these bags, along with your tent and sleeping bag while you hike
the Inca Trail. (please note they will be weighed before we leave
Cuzco). Items not required while on the trail can be stored safely
at our hotel in Cuzco. All you will be required to carry is a
daypack containing items you will need during the day (Water,
camera, sunscreen, rain poncho, etc..).
Return To List
Is purified water available on the trail
Bottled water can be purchased on day 1 and on the evening of day 3
of the Inca Trail however we discourage trekkers from purchasing
bottles as it increases the amount of garbage that must be packed
out. Boiled water will be provided in the morning at breakfast, at
lunch and every evening after dinner so that you can refill your
water bottle(s)

What type of food will we get on the Inca Trail
Our cooks prepare excellent high-energy meals appropriate for a
trek of this nature. The menu usually includes pasta, rice,
chicken, fresh fruit and vegetables and a variety of oatmeal, eggs
and other breakfast foods. Vegetarian alternatives are available
upon request at the time of booking.

How much should I tip the guides and porters
Tipping is at your discretion but always appreciated. A good rule
of thumb is anywhere from $2-10 dollars per day for the porters.

What are the requirements to hike the Inca Trail
To hike the Inca Trail with GAP Adventures you must be over the age
of 12, with moderate level of fitness, and hold a passport that is
valid for up to 6 months after you return to your home country. At
time of booking it is essential that we have the current passport
number and expiry date of the passport that you will be traveling
with. You will not be permitted on the Inca Trail if the passport
details do not match what is on your permit when it was issued.
Bookings should also be made at least 3-4 months in advance to
ensure a permit can be obtained. A limited amount of permits are
available each day for hikers in an effort to preserve the trail.

While all of our adventures are designed for small groups, the

of our adventures are guided and will include the services of a
tour leader and/or local guides. Each trip description indicates
the maximum number of trip participants and the staff for that
trip.
[Return to List]
Food:
Food inclusions vary widely from one adventure to another. On some
trips virtually every meal is included, while on others none are.
Most fall somewhere in between. On some there is a food kitty from
which groceries will be purchased to cover most meals, on others
there is a local payment to cover meals, while on others you will
pay as you go. Check the trip description for details.
[Return to List]
Sightseeing:
Every trip includes sightseeing of one type or another. Some trips
include guided sightseeing excursions and most trips offer optional
excursions at an additional price. Consult the trip description for
the inclusions on each trip.

Domestic or Internal Flights:
Many adventures cover long distances between destinations with
internal or domestic flights. On some trips the flight is not
included and that is clearly stated in the comprehensive itinerary.
Check the trip description for details.
[Return to List]
Airport Transfers:
Most trips do not include arrival and departure airport transfers.
When it is included it will be specifically mentioned in the trip
description. This is because in most areas it is much less
expensive for you to arrange a local taxi than for us to
orchestrate an organized transfer. Contact us for more information
or click the "Hotels, Transfers City Breaks" link within a
tour information page.
Accommodation for the night before and after your tour is usually
available at additional expense. Contact us for more information or
click the "Hotels, Transfers City Breaks" link within a tour
information page.

Prices, Local Payment Single Supplement:
Prices are as indicated and are for land content from the joining
point hotel. All prices are per person based on twin share
accommodation whether in hotels, tents, boats or otherwise. On most
trips solo travellers will be matched up with another traveller of
the same sex. In some cases multi-share accommodations will be
necessary. When this is the case it will be clearly indicated in
the trip description. Single supplements are necessary on a few
trips and are available on a few others. Generally we are not able
to ensure private accommodation.
A local payment is required on many of the trips featured on this
website. The amount of the local payment will vary by trip so
please refer to the trip description for the specific local
payment. Paying locally allows us to keep the cost of our tours
competitive and pass the savings on to you. The applicable local
payment is to be made in the specified currency upon arrival.
[Return to List]
Inherent Dangers:
It is important that you understand that G.A.P Adventures operates
adventure tours where the accommodation, transport, safety,
hygiene, medical facilities and other factors may not be of the
standard that you are accustomed to at home, or would find on a
conventional holiday. By booking with G.A.P Adventures you are
accepting these conditions.
[Return to List]
Health and Fitness:
While many of our trips are not physically demanding, you should
still be in excellent health to travel with G.A.P Adventures. You
should read the specific trip description carefully as some include
walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, etc. which may be arduous. If
you have any doubts please contact us for more information. These
adventures are not for everyone. If you have any physical or mental
disability that may limit your ability to fully participate, please
consult G.A.P Adventures We may require a medical certificate prior
to booking your trip.
Adults of all ages and older children are welcome on most G.A.P
Adventures tours. For older travelers we stress that adventure
travel is inherently more rigorous than conventional vacations and
can be physically demanding. You will be expected to carry your own
bag and participate in group activities. All travelers 70 years of
age and over are required to provide a medical form signed by a
physician. We cannot accept bookings from unaccompanied minors.
Itineraries can and do change during the course of the year due to
a variety of reasons. We are not always able to advise you in
advance of these changes. We ask for your understanding and
patience in these cases.
These are adventure trips and on most itineraries you will be
carrying your own bag. Generally a single sturdy soft-sided bag or
backpack will work best. Suitcases will not work well on most
trips. On some trips there are actual baggage restrictions due to
limited storage space, flight limitations, porters' carrying
limits, etc. In general it is best to pack light!
Where camping equipment is needed, all necessary communal equipment
including tents and all cooking and eating utensils will be
provided. Sleeping bags and mats are not always provided.
[Return to List]
Group Activities:
Most of the adventures on this website are based on group
activities. As such, all activities included in the price are based
on being part of the group. If by choice or necessity you leave the
group, we will generally not be able to supply alternative
services, and you should not expect us to do so.
Travel insurance is mandatory on all G.A.P Adventures.
[Return to List]
Spending Money:
You need to bring enough money to cover meals not included in the
price; drinks, tips, incidentals, optional activities and
excursions, souvenirs, and occasionally other fees as indicated in
the trip description. Contact G.A.P Adventures for more specific
information but remember: spending opportunities vary as widely as
spending habits, so budget accordingly.

If you have a preferred travel agent, or if you heard about us
through an agent, we strongly encourage you to book your adventure

What does "Holding an Option" mean
It means reserving space without payment for up to 48 hours.
Holding an option gives you time to research flights, gather
passport information, confirm arrangements with travel partners,
etc.. An option will expire and your space will be released unless
you confirm within 48 hours. Holding an option isn't necessary if
you know you want to book and are ready to make payment.
Return To List
How do I "Hold an Option"
There are two ways to hold an option: online or by phone
(1-800-708-7761). Our secure online booking form allows you to
"Hold an Option" or "Confirm my Booking". Payment is not required
when holding an option however we do require your credit card
details when booking online. Your credit card will not be charged
unless you confirm your option. After holding an option you will be
provided with a
Booking Reference Number and
instructions on how to confirm. Options that are not confirmed
within 48 hours will expire and your space will be released.
Return To List
How do I confirm after "Holding an Option"
You can confirm your space by email (travel@gap.ca) or by phone
(1-800-708-7761). Please be sure to have the following details at
hand:
Payment is by credit card. If your tour departs within 60 days full
payment is required, otherwise a deposit of $250 per person will
confirm your booking. If you are booking an expedition cruise
aboard the Explorer full payment is required if your tour departs
within 90 days, otherwise a deposit of $500 per person will confirm
your booking. Initial documents will be emailed to you within 48
hours of confirming your booking.
Return To List
Is availability guaranteed when I book online
The availability listed on our website is updated every minute
however on some tours we must confirm arrangements with our people
on the ground, a process which usually takes no more than 24 hours.
When you book online you will receive a follow-up email confirming
your arrangements or a timeframe for when they will be confirmed.
We strongly recommend that you do not make any other non-refundable
travel arrangements until you receive confirmation that your space
has been held.
Return To List
Are your tours guaranteed to run
Yes - some G.A.P Adventures tours have guaranteed departures. Just
look for any trip with a "G" beside the dates in the price box.
This is our guarantee that your departure will be operating as
scheduled
once you have booked*. That means once
you choose your departure date, you can confidently book flights
and make all the necessary travel arrangements with the peace of
mind that the departure time won't change.
The fact is, most of our trips operate as scheduled but some may
not become guaranteed until much closer to the departure date. We
recognize that some of our travellers feel more comfortable
finalizing their travel plans much farther ahead. So look for the
trips with the adjacent "G", book your tour, book your flights and
book your insurance; then tell your boss that you are leaving and
there is no turning back.
* A trip with a "G" beside it denotes that the trip is guaranteed
to operate once you book your space, barring unusual circumstances
beyond the company's control or for reasons of force majeure.
Return To List
Do I need insurance
All of our tours require that you have medical travel insurance
which includes at least USD$75, 000 worth of emergency evacuation
and repatriation coverage. On Day 1 your tour leader / G.A.P
representative will ask you for proof of coverage. If you do not
already have coverage please give us a call and we can arrange this
for you. Cancellation insurance is recommended but not mandatory.
Return To List
How do you send out travel documentation
All documentation is sent electronically by email. Shortly after we
receive your payment we will send you your initial documents. Final
documentation will be sent by email no later than two weeks prior
to the departure.
Return To List
Why can't extra services be added to a file within 10 days of
departure
As our adventures are often "off the beaten track" it is next to
impossible to contact our tour leaders and have them arrange these
services in such a short time frame. We highly recommend adding
services to your booking at least 30 days prior to your departure
date as amendment fees can apply between 30 - 10 days.
Return To List
Can I pay in full right away
You sure can. Please let your GAP Adventures specialist know at
time of booking or indicate this when making your online booking.
Return To List
Can I cancel my booking if I decide I cannot make it
When your deposit is made, and we confirm your booking, it is
non-refundable. If you cancel your booking within 60 days of
departure, the penalty is 50% loss, and if you cancel within 30
days, it is 100%. Because of this, we highly recommend taking out
an All-Inclusive Insurance policy, so you know your investment is
secure! For further information regarding our terms and conditions,

Return To List
Will you let me know if my tour is guaranteed sooner than the
60-day mark
Yes, an email will automatically be sent to you advising to go
ahead and book your international airfare as your tour is now
guaranteed to depart.

Can my documents be mailed out to me
As a sustainable company we try to limit the amount of paper that
we consume, therefore, all documents are electronically sent
directly to your email account. Please consult a GAP Adventures
specialist if this is not possible.

Excellent. This was my first time using GAP Adventures and it was
exactly what I was hoping for--a way to explore a substantial part
of a country without feeling like we were just getting on and off

great.
