President of the St. Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association, Mr. Modeste has been employed within the tourism sector for a number of years. He was educated at the University of Wales and is married with three children. A former Minister of Education, Mr. Modeste has served on a number of national organizations including the St. Lucia Development Bank.

Burdon reports to Michael Batt, president, Carlson Leisure Group. Previously, Burdon had been British Airway`s (BA) Sales & Marketing Manager for the Middle East and North Africa since April 1994. His accomplishments in this role include generating net revenues for his sales region of more than $320 million, and growing BA`s share of the leisure market by 20 percent. In addition, Burdon launched an ambitious Sales Business Training program across the region. From January 1991 until March 1994, Burdon was BA`s Regional Business Manager for the Americas. His achievements in this position include implementing strategies for achieving a three-year Regional Business Plan; generating $6 million in incremental revenue; negotiating cost savings with external suppliers; and driving the launch of new passenger routes to Mexico and Santiago. All told, Burdon`s 23-career with BA spans much of the globe in positions including: area sales manager for Saudi Arabia and Yemen from August 1988 until 1991; manager for Western Australia from January 1985 to November 1986; district sales manager for Papua New Guinea from November 1982 to January 1985; and Overseas Duty Officer from April 1978 until November 1982. BA recognized Burdon with its Sales Achievement of the Year award for 1984. Burdon came to BA in 1975, where for three years he worked as a General Apprentice. A native of the United Kingdom, Burdon holds a masters degree in Business Administration from Lancaster University, U.K. He is a member of the U.K. Chartered Institute of Transport, and the U.K. Institute of Sales and Marketing Management.

Turkey is expecting 2.2 million tourists from Russia this year, Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Atilla Koc said at the Moscow International Tourism Fair. Culture and tourism play an important role in the development of bilateral contacts, and the increasing number of Russian tourists in Turkey is a proof to that, he said. We are trying to develop not only seaside tourism, although the majority of Russians associate Turkey with the sea, the beach, and the glimmering sun. Our country has huge cultural and environmental resources, and a growing number of tourists visit regions outside the seaside for studying our culture.
