Wandering Marlin

Wandering Marlin

Author: Jim Rizzuto
Marlin and tuna have sometimes been called "fish without a country" because of their wide-ranging migrations. Even so, few would have predicted the travels of an Australian black during a four-year "walkabout" across the entire Pacific Ocean. Estimated at 33 pounds when caught off Australia's north coast in 1996, the fish was recaptured recently off Costa Rica.

Holiday In Wales The distance between the release and recapture points, approximately 8,100 miles, is officially the longest for a black marlin since New South Wales began its tagging program in 1973. Cairns charter boat owner Beryl Yates caught the marlin while fishing with her husband Neil aboard their vessel Tropic Sea. On learning of the recapture last month, Yates said she was "thrilled to bits" to know that her black marlin had lived more than four years and traveled so far.

When Sarah wanders thought the neighborhood one day, Ronnie brings her into his bedroom and plans to seduce her.

Holiday Wales In addition to providing information on the great distances the species travels, the recapture reconfirms the fact that marlin survive release. Unfortunately, the weight at recapture was not provided by the recapture boat, which is believed to be a commercial fishing vessel. It is speculated that the marlin would have grown to around 400 pounds. The small size of the fish does fly in the face of a widely held belief, however. According to some billfish scientists, the long-distance travelers are usually the largest of the species.
