Online Retailers Holiday Sales Up 30 Percent

But sales of pet supplies, cosmetics and fragrances will increase faster than other categories at growth rates of over 30 percent, the report found. Last year, online sales rose 25 percent to $176.4 billion, with 28 percent growth in online purchases excluding travel. The most popular marketing initiatives have been direct e-mail promotions (92.4%), paid search engine marketing (71.4%), natural search engine marketing (53.3%) and affiliate/loyalty programs (40.1%). Free shipping with conditions reigns as the most successful promotion in retailers' arsenal with 62.0 percent of retailers citing it as being most successful in driving holiday sales. As for the best site tools, retailers are having the most success with gift idea centers (52.0%), suggested items (39.0%) and featured sale item pages (32.0%).

With the summer of 2006 in full gear, small travel and tourism businesses are experiencing strong levels of visitors and customers. survey from Constant Contact, 80 percent of small travel and tourism businesses said reservations were at or above last year's levels (37 percent and 43 percent respectively). With 84 percent expecting more online sales in 2006, the majority of small travel and tourism businesses today are using several methods of online marketing. In fact, 95 percent surveyed maintain a website, with 80 percent using email marketing to drive website traffic and to promote special offers. Constant Contact (www.constantcontact.com) is the leading email marketing service for small businesses, associations, and nonprofits.

Accommodation Holiday Wales The marketing and promotional initiatives are having the desired effect on Internet bargain hunters. Almost a third (30.3%) of consumers surveyed reported that they started their online holiday shopping earlier than last year.

Shopzilla offered some suggestions to shoppers to ensure that their online purchases would be shipped on time for the holidays. Most Retailers' Standard Shipping Deadlines are December 15 or 16. Consumers seeking to ensure gift delivery by Christmas should place their orders at most online retailers by December 15 or 16. One-fourth of retailers will guarantee Christmas delivery using standard shipping for orders placed by December 16. One-third of retailers will guarantee Christmas delivery for orders placed by December 15 or earlier.
