WTTC: Russia needs to capitalise on tourism

Holiday In Wales The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has presented an in-depth report to the government of Russia and to the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rozturism).

Turkey is expecting 2.2 million tourists from Russia this year, Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Atilla Koc said at the Moscow International Tourism Fair. Culture and tourism play an important role in the development of bilateral contacts, and the increasing number of Russian tourists in Turkey is a proof to that, he said. We are trying to develop not only seaside tourism, although the majority of Russians associate Turkey with the sea, the beach, and the glimmering sun. Our country has huge cultural and environmental resources, and a growing number of tourists visit regions outside the seaside for studying our culture.

The presentation and discussion that followed focused on the policy recommendations for government.

The Shanghai Water Tourism Association is planning to develop water tourism into a permanent tourist attraction, emulating the successes of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. "We want to promote water tourism in Shanghai, " said Dao Shuming, director of the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administrative Commission, told the Shanghai Daily newspaper. "We want to gain more fame among foreign travelers."
