They say that Fish and Wildlife Service officials haven't pushed hard enough for nonlead bullets because they don't want to pick a fight with hunters and the politically powerful National Rifle Assn.

"They will become less wild if they spend a generation in the zoo. There will always be sources of death for condors. We want a viable population that can tolerate a certain mortality of its own."

Caravan Holiday In Wales There are currently 76 condors living wild in California, Arizona and Mexico and 126 in captivity. The goal of the program is two populations of 150 birds in California and Arizona.
