The 2000 Governor's Cup Billfishing Series will be comprised of six tournaments this year running from North Myrtle Beach to Edisto Island, SC. "The series, which encourages the tag and release of blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish, as well as tuna, dolphin and wahoo, is entering its 12th year," said Wayne Waltz, assistant director for the Office of Fisheries Management for the S. C. Department of Natural Resources.

Holiday In Wales "The Governor's Cup encourages family participation and conservation of coastal resources," Waltz said. "By awarding points for the tag and release of billfish, the series rewards anglers who release these magnificent fish, rather than bring them back to the dock, while at the same time promoting the SC billfishing industry and coastal tourism."

St. Director of Tourism Since 1998 Mr. Peter Hilary Modeste has served, as the Director of Tourism of the St. Lucia Tourist Board. President of the St. Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association, Mr. Modeste has been employed within the tourism sector for a number of years. He was educated at the University of Wales and is married with three children. A former Minister of Education, Mr. Modeste has served on a number of national organizations including the St. Lucia Development Bank.

"Last year, 98 percent of the billfish caught off our coast were released alive to contribute to the future of our billfish populations," Waltz said. "With the generous support of corporate sponsors including Carolina First, Cummins Marine/Cummins Atlantic and Williams Detroit Diesel-Allison, this program costs taxpayers very little yet has made great strides in helping conserve many valuable species through the increased emphasis on tag and release."

Plans are already underway to pay tribute to this beloved part of the island's history says the Aruba Tourism Authority.

Camping Holiday Wales The eighth annual "Carolinas Shootout" interstate fish-off will be held April 27-29 at Charleston Harbor Marina. The Shootout had been scheduled for last September but was canceled due to damage from Hurricane Floyd to Charleston Harbor Marina as well as extensive damage to coastal North Carolina and its marinas.
